Film Development Board (FDB) is established by the Government of Nepal according to the existed Motion Picture (Production, Exhibition and Distribution) Act amended on 20th November 1991.

The constitution of the Film Development Board was with the Government's deep interest in development and promotion of motion picture sector in Nepal. Therefore, the provision is made for the Board headed by a film personality espoused with Joint Secretaries as ex-officio members as representatives of the related line Ministries.

SAARC Film Festival from July 18 to 23
The SAARC Film Festival-2008 organised by the Cultural Affairs Ministry, Srilanka to coincide with the SAARC summit will be held from July 18-23 at Liberty and Ricky Cinemas in Colombo.

From Nepal, three member delegations: Mr. Ishwar Chandra Gywali, Chairman; Mr. Shivaji Lamichhane, Member and Mr. Keshav Raj Acharya, of Film Development Board, Nepal has been participated. A collection of 10 critically acclaimed films from across the region are expected to be screened during the festival and will be screened free of charge. The inauguration ceremony of the event will be held at the Liberty Cinema on July 18 under the patronage of Cultural Affairs Minister Mahinda Yapa Abeywardene.

The rest of the festival is to take place at Ricky Cinema with the films being screened at 2.30 p.m. and 6.30 p.m. The schedule: July 19: Ghani (2.30 p.m) and Nipontor (6.30 p.m) from Bangladesh, July 20: Mitr: My Friend (2.30 p.m) and Baranas: A Mystic Love Story (6.30 p.m) from India, July 21: Lal Salaam from Nepal, July 22: Khuda Kay Liye (2.30 p.m) and Koi Tuja Sa Kahan (6.30 p.m) from Pakistan and July 23: Yahaluwo (2.30 p.m) and Nisalagira (6.30 p.m) from Sri Lanka.
